Gonioscopy is an examination technique utilized by our doctors to examine internal eye structures. A Gonioscopic Lens appears a little like a contact lens with embedded mirrors. This set up allows us to search for anatomical structures hidden around the corner, not easily visible with a microscope alone. Analogous to using a periscope which enables viewing of objects out of sight.
Which structures can be viewed using Gonioscopy?
The internal eye structures which are commonly viewed are the anterior segment filtration channel, or your eyes drainage channel ,and very peripheral retina.
Is this a routinely carried out test?
No ,it is usually carried out upon indication.
